A great new way to spice up your website is to create a custom video introduction. Get people excited about your site by incorporating music, graphics and your personal message. Whether it is letting people know what publications you have recently been featured in or showcasing new photos, a video intro can let people know you are staying on top of the technological curve and up to date, no matter what field you are in. Check out the new video intro I created for Brett Matthews Photography here.

A designer's point of view is greatly affected by his or her experience. This is why I consider it imperative to travel and experience other cultures and their use of design, architecture, and means of communication. This year I chose Spain as my destination and visited two cities: Barcelona and Valencia. Barcelona had many things to offer including the work of my favorite architect Gaudi, plenty of fresh produce markets, and the wonderful almond milk called orxata. While in Valencia I got to experience the cities very own Las Fallas Festival. The whole city was in celebration for a week of "out with the old and in with the new". Fireworks were flying everywhere. I've never seen a parent so proud of their child's ability to set of a firecracker! I've captured some of the momentous events of the trip here. The beginning of the New Year is the time to reassess and reflect on everything in our lives. One thing that I continue to appreciate is the ability to work and design in New York City, where even in the winter months one can find inspiration and new ideas for graphic design and even logo design simply by looking out a window or walking down a local street.

As the holidays approach you find yourself looking forward to a nice and relaxed time with your family. But, who are we kidding what time is more hectic then holiday time! While helping my mother prepare our Thanksgiving dinner, I found myself being coaxed into designing placement cards for the table. With some quick Photoshop work and my mom’s handy craft skills, we made some truly beautiful cards that put everyone in a holiday mood. No matter where I am I find myself constantly incorporating my work and love for design.

E–mailers are a fantastic way to get information to your clients! It keeps them updated on what's new in your world and how it is relevant to theirs. Most of all it is a huge money saver. In today's economy businesses are lookin to cut costs anywhere they can. Why not send something electronically and save on stamps, envelopes, and ink. For example, Lindsay, a pilates instructor in New York City, chose to notify her clients electronically about her visit and teaching schedule in Los Angeles. Check out her e–mailer here.

Kiss + Cathcart Architects believes that good design and good architecture comes from creating economically sound buildings that give back to their environment & occupants. I have recently worked with the firm to redesign their site, which not only explains and explores these ideas, but makes it a fun interactive experience. The website has a section for featured projects created by Kiss + Cathcart, as well as a map and timeline of the projects they have taken part in around the world. Check out their great new site here.

One of the best things about being a graphic designer & especially a freelance designer is the ability to have really diverse projects. Take for example the illustrations I created for Alan Rosenspan's website through DLS Design. Sometimes a picture is really worth a thousand words or just gets your concept across. Do you think your website could benefit from illustrations and graphical symbols? Feel free to send me an e-mail at yuliyadagayeva@gmail.com to get a quote or contact DLS Design for said services and more. Check out Alan's spectacular newsletter here.

After many hours of hard work the new revamped site for DLS Design is online! The site has been online since 1995. David Schiffer and I both brought our knowledge to the table to enhance user experience and create a memorable branding identity for DLS online. I especially enjoyed creating the graphics and illustrations that spice up the pages. The site is built with search engines in mind, with functions being based on HTML and minimal use of flash. If you are interested in redesigning your site or creating a new site for your company contact me at . Please take a look at the new site for DLS here. DLS Design does a wonderful job of designing websites. Feel free to contact them here.

Have you ever went to a Supermarket and gotten lost in the information they provide in their circulars? I have become so frustrated with this print form that I decided to redesign it for my thesis. I want the piece to concentrate on the nutritional value of the items on sale. It will also feature quick recipes and inspiration for maintaining a healthy diet. Please take a look at my progress here.

Kara Hayden is a senior Photography student at the School of Visual Arts. We decided to design a minimal website that would allow her photographs to live and breathe in the space. Please view her work and website at www.karahayden.com. Of particular interest to me is her conceptual body of work titled "two and a half", which proposes that we are not simply what our age currently is, but the sum of all of our ages, past and present.

MediFlix & Surgiflix is a medical stock video site. This project was challenging because it required a lot of video editing and revisions. As of its completion MediFlix & SurgFlix is functioning and occupying a niche in the stock video market that has not been explored by many large stock sites like Corbis and Getty. Please view the website at www.mediflix-surgiflix.com.
